Hillary won’t give up. I suppose I can be accused of being somewhat sexist in my diatribes against America’s Ex-Wife.. (whoops I did it again) but fact is I really really don’t like the gal. I think she’s mean. Mean spirited, AND I don’t think her motivation for running for President is a good one. I believe she’s doing this in order to be America’s first woman in the white house, good of the country be damned.
On one level I feel a bit sorry for her. Six months ago, in the heady days of late Fall, she really looked like she was unbeatable. I’m sure she was telling Bill this was just about wrapped up. The Republicans were all but dead, and there weren’t any real challenges to her on the horizon. How quickly things change. Where Clinton messed up, was in two places 1) She underestimated the impact of her sky-high negatives. Back then, as now, there wasn’t really anyone on the fence about Hillary Clinton. You either supported her or you hated her. That’s what experience gets you, especially high profile experience like she has. 2) She didn’t anticipate that Barak Obama would be as effective a campaigner as he is. Barak STOLE her thunder, time and time again. Clinton rallies had hundreds, Obama had thousands. Time and time again people lined up for blocks to get into an Obama speech. Clinton was a candidate, Obama became an event.
Clinton raised thousands, Obama raised millions. Clinton’s now $20.0M in debt, Obama has a huge war chest ready to go.
Then Clinton started making dumb mistakes. Bills performance in South Carolina, the comments about Serbia, all small things mind you, but all things that Barak was able to exploit and blow up on Hillary. When Barak had issues, with the exception of the Reverend White deal, which will come up again against McCain, Barak was able to make them non-issues. Most troubling for me were the events with the Canadian Consul in Chicago… that was probably a bigger deal than most of the Clinton gaffs, but it went away quickly.
This has to be a hard thing for Hillary to deal with. She has to come to grips with the idea that America doesn’t really like her. Her party, some of her strongest allies, Bill Richardson for example, have turned their back on her. She’s on her own and she’s losing. For her to quit now would be to look in the mirror and admit this stuff. Difficult at best, but necessary.
I still think the Republicans are dead in the water. Right or wrong, every time the price of gas goes up a nickel, another incumbent Republican puckers up.. I don’t think McCain has a chance, but even if he does win, I suspect there’s going to be a landslide of Democratic support in House and Senate elections. The Democratic majority in the house is going to about 6 seats bigger I predict. In the Senate I see the Dems picking up 3 seats at least maybe 4 depending on CO. I don’t see any new Republican Senators.
Once again you do wonder what will happen once the Democrats are in power, change may provide difficult to get done.
The Wild Card
There is a bit of a wrinkle in this election from the Land of 10,000 Lakes. We could be looking at third party candidate that could change the complexion of the Senate election here. Dean Barkley, who served in the Senate for a few months after Paul Wellstone was killed, an independent, has announced that he’s looking at running for the job, unless….
Unless his ex-boss decides to run. Yes America, the return of Jessie Ventura to politics. Now I’m gonna tell ya what ya don’t need me to say.. Jessie is a massive fraud. He’ll run for office if he thinks it will sell more copies of his new crappy book. BUT should he run for Senate this time around, it would be foolish for Norm Coleman to write him off. It would be foolish or Al Franken to write anybody off he’s in such bad shape.
Norm against Jessie isn’t a gimmie for Norm. To the contrary. As said Jessie’s a fraud, his term of office was an embarrassment to the state. He has the thinest skin around. He’s been boycotting the Minnesota Media for a decade because they pointed out his flaws, and they reported on his son’s antics in the Governor’s Mansion. Like it was none of our business that the kid was hanging out in the Historical Landmark, owned by the State, getting drunk with his buddies and puking on the antiques. (Jessie chose not to live there because he didn’t like the security.
(BTW- I know life’s not fair, but how does a guy that stupid get that wealthy.. not like he works at it)
Anyway, I’m going to go out on a limb here and suggest that should Mr. Ventura run for Senate, he’s got a better than expected chance of winning. Minnesotians like that sort of thing and aren’t above sending him to Washington.

Wow an arrogant democrat who can’t spell Jesse Ventura is parroting a stupid anti Ventura theory. Do you think for one second a multi millionair whos living the good life is gonna run for senate to make his publisher happy? This feels more and more like 98 every day.

Mmmm, douchebags on the Internet for the win! At least he’s fair — he can’t spell Barack either

I can’t spell shet, that’s old news. . No need to name call here “mike”.
BUT, don’t call me arrogant, I may be dumb fat ugly and unable to spell or write, but I’m not arrogant. ..
Also, I’m not parroting anything, I’m observing. I’m observing that Jessie has written another book about himself. I’m observing that he had a publicity deal at the MOA which had stupid rules, ala the Ventura administration.. I’m observing that as Gov, he did almost nothing for this state except reduce taxes on personal water craft, because he owned a few of them. I’m observing that his ego was so big, and his skin so thin that when he saw he wasn’t going to win reelection he chickened out and came up with a lame excuse not to run. I’m observing that he’s so upset about criticism he’s moved to Mexico to get away from it all. Everything he does and says leads me to observe that he’s an idiot. If you disagree so be it, but then who’s the parrot. Support your points, don’t just name call, that’s what Jessie does.
And you missed the point, it does feel like 98. I think he can win. That said, what happened in 1998 didn’t work out. In 2008 it’s an embarrassment. As is Al Franken. Cut from the same mold only Al can make a point Jessie can’t so he gets defensive all the time.
If Jessie had been effective, and if he had been a good leader, the Independence Party might have turned in to something good. A real third party. As it is the party is in such a bad state they can’t even return phone calls from interested people wanting to learn more about their positions. They’re dead in the water at the moment. If they were strong they wouldn’t be putting up any candidate who cares to file, like that moron Doug Williams. Granted he wasn’t endorsed but he should have been bounced from the party.
I don’t know what the hell Jessie going to do, he acts like my 11 year old every time he gets the chance, I rarely know what she’s going to do.
